The Farm Service Agency Offices in Chelan and Douglas Counties are looking for candidates for the upcoming grower-elected county committee election. FSA is accepting nominations through August 1, 2014. In Chelan County, this year's election takes place in Local Administrative Area (LAA) #1, currently represented by William Clark. LAA #1 encompasses the north western portion of the county including the communities of Entiat, Manson and Chelan. In Douglas County, this year's election takes place in Local Administrative Area (LAA) #3, currently represented by Rodney Peterson. Rod has reached his term limit and is unable to serve again. LAA #3 encompasses the sourthern portion of the county, everything south of State Highway 2, including the communities of Orondo, East Wenatchee, Rock Island and Palisades. FSA encourages all interested agricultural producers, including women and minority growers to seek nomination. FSA county committees make decisions which can impact program payments. They bring local knowledge of farming practices, prices and conditions to program implementation. Also, producers who appeal agency determinations have the right to a hearing before the local county committee. Elected county committee members receive an hourly wage for their attendance and representation at county committee meetings. Elections will take place this fall and newly elected committee members begin their terms January 1, 2015. FSA will mail ballots to all eligible voters in the respective LAAs. Anyone not receiving a ballot by November 10, 2014 can contact our office to request one. Additional information and nomination forms may be requested from the FSA office. Nomination forms may also be obtained online at http://www.fsa.usda.gov/wa. |
