Dear Colleague:

Please download the "Dear Colleague" letter below, which discusses the need for hepatitis C screening and testing in those with substance use and mental disorders.

This letter describes the rationale for testing in the behavioral health population, discusses the recent U.S. Preventive Services Task Force endorsement of hepatitis C screening, and provides contact information for state viral hepatitis prevention coordinators who can assist with implementation of screening and testing programs.

Please distribute this letter to all who you think may find this information useful including behavioral health providers and staff. We hope that this letter will be helpful to clinical staff trying to provide the best possible care to those receiving services in behavioral health programs throughout the Nation.

Sincerely,

Elinore F. McCance-Katz, M.D., Ph.D.

Chief Medical Officer
