To encourage discussion of the ways in which TRI facilities have reduced their releases of toxic chemicals into the environment, we're developing a new Web series highlighting chemicals and industry sectors for which significant pollution prevention (P2) progress has been made.

The first installment in this series takes a close look at the use of the solvent trichloroethylene (TCE)--characterized by EPA as a human carcinogen--in the fabricated metals sector. The quantity of TCE releases reported to TRI by facilities in this sector decreased by 79% between 2001 and 2012.

Learn how source reduction and other environmentally-friendly practices contributed to this trend, and read about how the Schick Manufacturing Facility in Verona, Virginia, has completely eliminated TCE from its operations.

Your input on this new series is important; once you've read the bulletin, please tell us what you think in the TRI online discussion forum!

And don't forget to visit our P2 webpage for more information about how TRI facilities are improving their environmental performance.
